The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act requires the Office of Management and Budget, in consultation with Department of the Treasury, the Council of Economic Advisers, and the Small Business Administration, to issue quarterly reports to Congress and the public on the economic impact of certain coronavirus funds. This is the second quarterly report issued.

This management information report provides the Office of Inspector General’s (OIG) perspective on challenges the U.S. Department of Education (Department) may face as it implements and oversees the Coronavirus, Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The 136 Border Patrol stations and 307 OFO ports of entry that responded to our survey described various actions they have taken to prevent and mitigate the pandemic’s spread among travelers, detained individuals, and staff. We surveyed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facilities from April 8-20, 2020 regarding their experiences and challenges managing COVID-19 among detainees in their custody and among their staff. The facilities that responded to our survey described various actions they have taken to prevent and mitigate the pandemic’s spread among detainees.
