Health care providers have used telehealth, or telemedicine, during the pandemic to deliver care to patients in their homes. The $200 million COVID-19 Telehealth program created by the CARES Act in March 2020 funded telecommunications services, information services, and electronic devices, such as computers, smartphones, or tablets, needed for connecting to home care. The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 added $249.95 million more to the program in December 2020.

Health care providers eligible to receive funding were:
- Institutions of higher learning that offer health care instruction, including teaching hospitals and medical schools
- Centers providing health care to migrants
- Local health departments or agencies
- Community mental health centers
- Not-for-profit hospitals
- Rural health clinics
- Skilled nursing facilities
- Groups consisting of one or more of the entities listed above
