In June 2024, at our request, the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee (PRAC) found and provided us 36 matches for U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) employees who were connected to federal government pandemic relief loans. Pursuant to the commitment of the Office of Inspector General (OIG) to fostering and promoting accountability and integrity in government, we undertook an investigation into the 36 matches to determine the appropriateness of these employees receiving pandemic relief loans. Specifically, we sought to detect fraud in these pandemic relief loans.

As North Carolina’s Compulsory Attendance (Truancy) Law was not waived during the pandemic of school year or 2020-2021, the audit objectives were to determine whether six public school districts complied with the Truancy Law during the 2020-2021 school year. The objectives were to assess how many students were chronically absent during the 2020-2021 school year (and how many of this group promoted to the next grade or graduated), and whether the school districts ensured that student attendance data for the 2020-2021 school year was complete and accurate. Treasury reports that the Hardest Hit Fund is in a wind down status. SIGTARP will evaluate the status of the program, and Treasury’s planning of the program’s wind down. This will include, for example, TARP dollars remaining to be spent by state agencies, as well as current and estimated future program activity. It will also review Treasury’s direction and guidance to state agencies for wind down planning, and the state agencies’ response.
