A Plano dentist has been sentenced to federal prison for COVID-19 relief related violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney Damien M. Diggs today.

Between December 2020 and September 2021, Central Texas Allied Health Institute (CTAHI), a nonprofit City of Austin contractor, committed fraud by misrepresenting over $1.1 million in financial transactions across three contracts with Austin Public Health. In total, CTAHI was improperly paid roughly $417,000 because of its fraudulent contract claims. In addition, CTAHI appears to have overstated its total vaccination numbers and fabricated patient information under its contract to provide COVID-19 vaccines.

The objectives of this audit were to (1) obtain an understanding of internal controls over compliance for the Provider Relief Fund, assess control risk of noncompliance, and perform tests of those controls unless those controls were deemed to be ineffective, and (2) express an opinion on whether the State complied with federal statutes, regulations, and the terms and conditions of federal awards that may have a direct and material effect on the Provider Relief Fund .
